All About Me

Hello, my name is Hasset Worku. I created Understanding Neurodiversity because I wanted to help others see how neurodiverse kids feel, so they can learn, understand them, and help them.

Okay, you got that, but why should you listen to me or even believe what I have to say... well, I have learned how to talk to neurodiverse kids because I was told to look after them, since they needed help and an extra hand, and I was just left at that. But as a human, I like to understand other humans and slowly learned I need to listen to them, and thankfully, I learned to listen and understand those kiddos, because I had a baby cousin who's non-verbal at the moment, and I can understand her and help my family members do the same, which led me to create this website. I want to teach you (stranger) how to understand neurodivergent kids because we do not know who we would meet, and they could be neurodivergent.

I know, with this level of research, I should have gotten my PHD, but I hope you have a great time exploring the website and learning something new, even if you are knowledgeable about neurodiversity!

Disability is the new Ability

The Secret Behind This Project

This site is created to help neurotypical people know more about neurodiversity. This idea came to me because, as a teen, I was assigned to help out neurodiverse kids, and I had no idea what to do, and the adults at the time didn't provide any info on how I could understand the kids. Which was unfair, and I noticed the kids were also not involved in activities with their classmates, which broke my heart even more. So, after going out of my way to make them feel heard and teaching myself how to be accommodating to their learning style, I said, why not teach others and help them understand what neurodiversity is like? And what is a better way than creating a website!

My mission is to help neurodivergent kids be included in activities with their classmates by teaching their teachers how to manage the environment for a neurodivergent kid!

My biggest inspiration for creating a website like this is Understood.com!
